The project
Achieving focus is one of the most critical steps in astrophotography. The Bahtinov mask creates a three-spike diffraction pattern: when the central spike is perfectly centered between the two outer ones, focus is optimal. Simple, visual, foolproof.
Why use a Bahtinov mask?
Without a mask, judging focus on a star is often a matter of approximation. With a Bahtinov mask, confirmation is visual and immediate — even in total darkness, even with a motorised mount.
