The open-source Smallest is finally available on MakerWorld

It’s been a recurring request from the community: the open-source Smallest is finally available on MakerWorld! The kit files for 150/750 optics can be downloaded for free, alongside Printables where they were already published.

Why MakerWorld?

MakerWorld brings together a huge maker community, especially around Bambu Lab printers. Publishing the Smallest there lets even more people discover the project, print their own telescope, and share their makes and observing feedback.

What you’ll find: the Smallest V1

One important note: the version published on MakerWorld is the Smallest V1, the original prototype. It’s the design that proved the concept (a compact 150/750 Newtonian that fits in cabin luggage and reuses the optics from an off-the-shelf tube) and built the community around the project.

It’s still a great starting point to understand how a telescope works and to experiment, but it isn’t as refined as the commercial version and doesn’t include the updates made since.

Open-source version vs. commercial version

Since that V1, the Smallest has evolved a lot thanks to field feedback and many nights under the stars:

  • Mechanical refinements for more rigidity and smoother assembly
  • Carbon tubes and a removable counterweight on the ready-to-use version
  • Printed in carbon-fiber-filled PETG for a light, sturdy structure
  • Checked industrial optics and a 2-year warranty on the complete version

Both paths make sense: print the open-source V1 to discover the project and start the adventure, or go with the commercial version in the shop to get all the improvements right away.

Share your makes!

If you print the Smallest, feel free to post your make on MakerWorld and send us your photos: we love seeing your telescopes travel. You can also add your build to the community builds map.

Happy printing and clear skies!
